Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters will be submitting the county’s projects to INDOT for consideration for Community Crossings grant funds.
Peters said plans have changed a bit for how grant awards are to be done this time around.
“There will be two call for projects this year and each one is for $1 million,” said Peters. “If Marshall County applied for the first one and we got the $1 million, we would not be able to apply for the second one. If we applied for the first one and only got $500,000, then we’d be able to reapply for the second one for an additional $500,000 for a combination of $1 million total.”
A decision on what projects to include in the application will be determined soon. The application deadline is in late September for the first round of grants.
As for paving operations, crews are continuing with the current road program which has been quite successful this year.
“We’re right at about 68 miles of chip and seal and four miles of paving. I’ll be attending the county council meeting on Aug. 13 and I’ll be asking for an additional appropriation from Local Roads and Streets for $300,000. I’ll be asking for their blessing to continue with the road program.”
