Developer Kevin Berger and the Town of Culver submitted an application to the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority for tax credit funding to support the construction of a Stellar Communities housing project.
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist announced at Tuesday night’s Culver Town Council meeting that the application is placed in a separate category of applications for only Stellar Communities designees. He noted that the project is a little bigger than initially planned.
“It’s a total of 48 units,” Leist explained. “It will be 36-three bedroom units and 12-two bedroom units. It will be named The Paddocks. It will be on the opposite side of Cavalier Drive from the current Sand Hill Farm apartments that are going in. It’s a mix of townhomes and apartments. The townhomes would be entered into a rent-to-own program for qualifying residents.”
The units will require income-based rents as established by the office of Housing and Urban Development.
Leist said the application was submitted in July by Developer Kevin Berger from Easterday Construction with support from the Culver Town Council. Culver’s applications will be up against a proposal submitted by the City of Madison. In 2017, the City of Madison was the Stellar winner in Division I and the Town of Culver was the winner in Division II.
The Sand Hill Farms workforce development housing project is a part of the town’s Stellar Communities Designation Program planned projects.
The town will be notified if they are awarded the funds for the project on Nov. 15.
