Argos Zoning Book to be Updated, Spots Remain Open on Plan Commission

With the assistance of Marshall County Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt, Argos officials on the Plan Commission and BZA are currently in the process of assessing and updating the Town’s zoning book.

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney shared that the zoning book was last updated in 2015 and officials are currently working to find areas that need improvement in order to bring their zoning codes into compliance.

She noted that they’re planning to mirror the rules of surrounding areas such as Plymouth, Culver and Bremen. While the zoning specifications may vary slightly from place to place, she said the goal is to ensure there is some consistency amongst the neighboring communities.

She said that the entire process will take anywhere from a year to 14 months before a final version will be ready.

On a related note, Mullaney mentioned that there are still a few open seats on the Plan Commission. The group is entrusted with handling planning and zoning matters and members make decisions and recommendations regarding land use. There is no set date or times for meetings because the Argos Plan Commission meets on an “as needed” basis.
