Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters is gathering information on what to include in the 2019 Community Crossings grant application to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
He will be attending the Community Crossings district meeting in La Porte on July 25 which will focus on the 2019 application process and any changes.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer noted that the call for 2019 projects is in August, but next year the call for projects will occur in January and August. If applications are not approved in January, those projects may be proposed during the August round. The entities whose projects are approved in January will not be able to submit another application in August. Communities over 50,000 in population will provide a 50 percent grant match for projects approved while those with less populated areas will have a 25 percent match for projects.
Peters said four projects may be proposed for the 2019 Community Crossings call for projects. North Michigan Street is a potential project along with Dewey Street in Argos in addition to 9th Road from Pioneer to Union and 13th Road from State Road 17 to Olive Trail.
Commissioner Mike Delp suggested roads at the Lake of the Woods, but Commissioner Kurt Garner said INDOT focuses on roads that aid economic development and are major collectors. It could be added, but it most likely will be overlooked.
A more set project list will be provided to the commissioners at their next meeting.
