Bremen Water and Wastewater Rates to Increase

Bremen residents will be paying more for water and wastewater services beginning in 2019.

Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said the town council members are still trying to determine how much of a percentage to increase the rates next year. The rates could be done all at once or they could be phased-in.

“One has to go up 18 percent and one has to go up 21 percent,” said Weldy. “We’re debating whether we want to do it over a two year period. We could divide them in half and do 9 percent one year and 11 percent the year after that. We’re deciding what to do there. We’ll have that decision made in the next two council meetings by the end of August.

Weldy said that public hearings over the increases will be scheduled. He added that the increases will be about $2.00 to $2.50 more per bill for the average consumer who uses about 3,000 gallons of water a month.
