In mid-July, the Bremen Town Council members met with representatives from the Hometown Collaboration Initiative to discuss a potential addition to the downtown revitalization effort proposed in 2020.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said council members are considering including bumpouts as part of the sidewalk portion of the project. It will allow for a larger sidewalk area where restaurant owners can put out tables so patrons can dine outside in the downtown atmosphere. The areas will be fenced in. The idea is to give more of a local feel where residents can enjoy the downtown ambiance.
Weldy said they have held several meetings to get opinions on the bumpouts.
The idea goes with the overall project that includes new sidewalks and curbs in the downtown area. The street will also be rehabilitated in a collaborative effort with the Indiana Department of Transportation. New light poles and lighting will be installed with a speaker system.
