Plymouth City Councilman Jeff Houin spoke on behalf of the Long-Term Flood Recovery Committee during last Monday’s city council meeting.
According to City Attorney Sean Surrisi, Houin stated that after private insurance and FEMA funds are applied to relief efforts, there is still an additional $450,000 that is needed to help cover repair costs. During the meeting, Houin requested a $25,000 donation to assist with long-term efforts.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver said that the council members approved a donation of at least $25,000, plus whatever remains in an account that was previously established for flood clean-up.
She explained that after the flooding, $100,000 was allocated into an account to assist the Street Department with debris clean-up. She said while they have been utilizing the fund, they’re nowhere near spending all of that money.
For that reason, $25,000 will definitely be provided and whatever additional funds remain in that account will also be put toward long-term flood relief efforts.
Xaver noted that since the flood debris pick-up has been extended through the end of August, officials won’t know the exact account balance until this fall.
