Plymouth City Council Approves Donation for Long-Term Flood Recovery Committee

Plymouth City Councilman Jeff Houin spoke on behalf of the Long-Term Flood Recovery Committee during last Monday’s city council meeting.

According to City Attorney Sean Surrisi, Houin stated that after private insurance and FEMA funds are applied to relief efforts, there is still an additional $450,000 that is needed to help cover repair costs. Argos Town Council Approves $3,000 Annual Donation to the Marshall County Council on Aging

Argos Town Council members approved a $3,000 donation to the Marshall County Council on Aging when they met Wednesday night.

The executive director of the organization, Jacqueline Wright, came before the council to request a donation of $1,000 to $3,000 in order to help cover operation costs. She informed members that Argos has a substantial aging population.

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney explained that since the organization provides a valuable service to the community, members voted to give the maximum amount requested. Continue reading

Culver Community Schools’ Band Program Receives Generous Monetary Donation

The Culver Community Schools’ Band program will receive four years of financial assistance thanks to a generous donation from a local family who wishes to remain anonymous. The family agreed to provide $10,000 to the band this year and an additional $5,000 annually for the next three years.

Culver Community School Band Director Jason Crittendon explained that the money will be utilized for various things that will assist the students significantly such as instrument repairs that have been needed for some time but funds haven’t been available until now and new instruments that the school doesn’t currently own.

Another one of the potential purchases includes music chairs that are designed specifically to assist instrumentalists with posture and breathing. Continue reading

American Heart Association Seeks Donations for the Little Hats, Big Hearts Program

Can you knit or crochet? Your skills are needed to help the American Heart Association with their Little Hats, Big Hearts program.

Now through December 31st the AHA is collecting knitted or crocheted red baby hats to distribute in Indiana hospitals in the month of February, American Heart Month. The program is meant to raise awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of Americans and congenital heart defects, the most common birth defect in the country.

They are seeking hats for newborns and preemies made of red yarn that is either cotton or acrylic, medium to heavy weight that can be machine washed and dried. Don’t worry if you’re not the knitting or crocheting type, yarn can also be donated to the cause. Continue reading

Culver School Board Approves Donation, Elementary Principal Reports Awarded Grant Funds

Thousands of dollars will go toward technology at Culver Community Schools thanks to a donation from the Parent Teacher Organization. At the Culver Community School Board meeting Monday evening, board members approved a $3,000 donation from the Culver PTO.

Superintendent Karen Shuman said the members of the PTO have been meeting with Technology Director Daniel Medesi to determine where the money would be best spent. Continue reading
