Special summer hours have been established for Culver Town Hall and town officials will be trying out a new summer hour schedule as well.
During the summer season, Culver Town Hall will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. At last week’s Culver Town Council meeting, a new employee schedule was proposed.
President Ginny Bess Munroe said she collaborated with Clerk-Treasurer Karen Heim and Town Manager Jonathan Leist about a “morale-boosting” schedule that will give employees a chance to enjoy their summer.
She said that the summer work schedule for Town Hall and Street Department employees will be from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
However, there is a bit of a twist. President Munroe explained that employees will be able to alternate working later during the week to get off early on Friday and vice versa.
She told members, “Monday through Thursday, some employees would stay for that later time period and then on Friday they would be able to leave at lunch because they would have put in more hours Monday through Thursday and so they’d be able to leave 4 hours early on Friday.” Munroe went on to say, “The person covering Friday, they wouldn’t stay late Monday through Thursday.”
Munroe said that employees could work out a rotating schedule so that everyone would have a chance to work later during the week to take Friday off early or work shorter days during the week to cover the later shift on Friday.
She added that employees would still be working 40 hours but this schedule just rearranges the hours to allow for some off time that wasn’t previously available.
After some discussion, there was a unanimous vote in favor of passing the summer hours.
Council members agreed the new hours for employees will initially be for the summer season, running between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend. However, if the new schedule works out well, then members will discuss the possibility of applying it to the remainder of the year.
