Walsh and Kelly crews are busy working on the resurfacing project on South Michigan Street from Dewey Street to State Road 110 in Marshall County.
Highway Supervisor Jason Peters told the county commissioners Monday morning that the milling work was done on the project last week. The surface millings were deposited at the county highway department to be further ground to be used as a surface treatment for other county projects. Peters previously reported that the use of the millings saves the county a good deal of money.
This particular project is one that was approved for INDOT’s Community Crossings program. The total cost of the project is just over $450,350 with the county’s match of just over $148,000.
Peters also reported that the reclaimed roads are nearly ready for resurfacing. The process of applying calcium is complete.
“I think that we have gotten all of the reclaimed roads sprayed and I’m pretty sure we’ve gotten about 95 percent of our dust control done as well,” said Peters. “We’re planning to start priming the reclaimed roads at the end of this week or first of next week. Hopefully we can get our prime coat on those and then they’ll be ready for resurfacing.”
Peters doesn’t encourage residents to drive on freshly prime-sealed roads, but once the chip and seal surface is applied Peters said the traffic helps work in the surface. Commuters will just need to watch for loose gravel.
