The Triton Science Club will be getting some first-hand learning experience with a proposed trip to Ecuador in the summer of 2019! That’s according to school Superintendent Jeremy Riffle.
Superintendent Riffle reported that at their last meeting, Triton school board members approved the trip to proposed by Dawn Slein. Slein is a faculty member at the high school who teaches Biology, Advanced Placement Biology and serves as the instructor for the Biomedical Project Lead the Way program.
She said that so far, she has six students who are planning to join her on this immersive learning opportunity that will explore the ecosystems of Ecuador. The trip will take place after commencement ceremonies next year and will last a total of 11 days.
In the presentation she provided to school board members, Slein explained that she will accompany students on a plane to the South American country and they will meet up with their tour guide at the airport.
Some of the highlights of the trip include a whitewater rafting excursion, snorkeling, visiting the Charles Darwin Research Center and hiking through the Amazon Rainforest. Slein also included that students would be venturing to an indigenous Kichwa community, visiting the Cotopaxi National Park and exploring various areas such as a butterfly garden, a pink flamingo habitat and the Mindo Cloud Forest.
Slein has proposed June 10th, 2019 as a potential departure date. However, she mentioned that will not be officially set until the graduation date is finalized.
