County Council Transfers Funds for Road Projects

The Marshall County Council members took action Monday morning to fund upcoming road projects.

The county council approved a resolution to transfer money from the Rainy Day Fund into the Disaster Relief Fund in the amount of $1.5 million. This funding is to help the county highway department make necessary repairs to the county’s roads, bridges and culverts damaged during the February flooding event.

Auditor Julie Fox reminded the council that they set up line items within the budget to capture the funds for the two Community Crossings projects awarded to the county. The Beech Road project from U.S. 6 to 3B Road is done and the county’s grant match was $87,712.05. Payment has already been posted and a resolution for the transfer of funds from the Rainy Day Fund was approved to ensure that the project is closed.

Another resolution that transfers funds for the project that encompasses South Michigan Street from Dewey Street to State Road 110 was discussed. Funding was appropriated at the March 12 meeting. The total project cost is $450,352 for close to four miles of road work. The transfer of the county’s grant match of $148,089.13 from the Rainy Day Fund was unanimously approved.

The last resolution the council members approved was for the transfer of $325,250 from the Rainy Day fund to the road project on North Michigan Street from 1st Road to Tyler Road. This project was not approved for Community Crossing funds so it is completely funded by the county council.
