Marshall County officials are still looking to hire a county engineer.
Commissioner Kurt Garner asked the county council members Monday morning to reconsider the salary range offered for the county engineer’s position.
“We have seen evidence where we need to have a little more expertise,” said Garner. “Commissioner [Kevin] Overmyer has now suggested that maybe we look at something that is a little broader, that there would actually be little more responsibilities for this person. Generally, when there are more responsibilities there’s a higher salary.”
Garner said that a civil engineer could be able to give expertise on recent issues with drainage among other aspects.
He asked the council to raise the salary up to $85,000. The candidate would supervise the highway department as well as assist with other duties where a civil engineer may be needed. Garner indicated that the candidate the county is attempting to attract is interested in helping with drainage work and other departments in the county including small projects in other communities.
County Council President Judy Stone asked Garner to go back to the original proposal and make some changes for consideration at a future meeting.
