Marshall County Commissioners Question Two Claims

The Marshall County Commissioners withheld the approval of two claims during their meeting Monday amid questions of the procedure to purchase IT items.

Superior Court II submitted a claim of $2,820 for Apple iPads and another claim for $160.49 was submitted when an employee bought a printer on Amazon.com.

Commission President Kevin Overmyer explained that these purchases were not made through the proper procedure. He said many years ago the commissioners and council members decided that any computer or equipment purchase needs to be discussed and approved by IT Director Michael Marshall before they can be purchased. Overmyer said the suggested policy wasn’t followed in these instances and he doesn’t want employees diverting from the process.

Michael Marshall mentioned to the commissioners that the county council took out the computer line item in many department budgets to avoid this issue. He commented that it’s easier when purchases go through him so he can decide if the desired equipment is compatible with other county systems.

The commissioners voted unanimously to hold those claims for further review.
