The Marshall County Council considered an additional appropriation request in the amount of $50,000 to take care of LED lighting upgrade and other repairs at the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Gary Masterson from the county maintenance department, all of the lighting has been updated outside of the jail in the parking lot, and more lights are being switched out inside the facility as soon as one goes bad. Additional money is requested in case more issues arise at the jail.
Masterson and Sheriff Matt Hassel explained that a water leak at the jail had to be repaired along with the ceiling, compressors have been changed on the chiller/boiler units, and the ADA door was repaired. With those unforeseen circumstances, $343 remains in the fund when there was $25,000 in the fund to start the year. Over $19,330 is needed to fund the lighting upgrade. The rest of the requested funds will be on hand in case of other repairs needed.
It was noted that there are 20 compressors on the 10 chiller/boiler units on the roof. Four compressors have already been replaced at $5,000 apiece. Masterson said they’re all to the point of going out as they’re 10 years old and there are 16 compressors to consider.
The council unanimously approved the additional appropriation as requested.
