Public Hearing Today for Reestablishment of Cumulative Capital Development Fund

The Marshall County Commissioners have set aside time today to hear public comment on the proposed tax increase to help reestablish the Cumulative Capital Development Fund to the maximum point. A public hearing on the matter is set for 9 a.m.

The commissioners are looking to capture funds to help pay for capital investments in the county. During the recent Marshall County Council meeting, Commissioner Kurt Garner explained that the fund will mostly assist the highway department in annual equipment costs. He said that he doesn’t anticipate the increase to be completely utilized by the highway department. The remaining amount can build to help with other immediate needs in the county.

The tax increase would not exceed $.0333 per $100 of assessed valuation of property. The approximate amount of money that will be generated with this tax increase is $400,000.

The Marshall County Council members did put on the record that they support the commissioner’s decision to reestablish the Cumulative Capital Development Fund.

While the public hearing is set for 9 a.m. today, the commissioners will begin their regular meeting at 8:30 a.m. with reports from the highway department, county auditor and county attorney. The commissioners will also make a reappointment to the Bourbon Public Library, approve an appointment to the sick bank board and discuss a pre-pay request for a sheriff’s vehicle.

The Marshall County Commissioners will meet in the second floor meeting room in the Marshall County Building, 112 W. Jefferson Street.
