Communities Scrambling to Maintain Restrictions on Small Cell Towers

New Bremen EMS Building Almost Complete
The new building that houses the Bremen EMS Department and the food pantry is nearing completion.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said the finishing touches are being applied to the 10,800 building the town purchased last year to house the two entities.
Discover Plymouth Organization Making Progress
Representatives from the Discover Plymouth organization presented information to the Plymouth City Council on Monday night on their progress on plans in making the city a safer place to walk and bike.
According to Allie Shook, the group plans to improve existing crosswalks or install crosswalks, connect fitness facilities with sidewalks, and construct bike racks, benches and bumpouts. Shook says the purpose of a bumpout is to increase pedestrian safety.
Culver Town Council Approves Park Maintenance Quote
Culver Park Superintendent Anna Campbell presented a quote for maintenance at the Culver Town Park.
Sellers Maintenance will grind down areas where tree roots are causing a tripping hazard and fill divots in the grass. The workers will also fertilize the grass and apply seed in areas. Campbell said the west end of the park will be rehabilitated as it is a heavily used area and work was lacking last year.
Investment Advisors Can Protect Clients from Financial Elder Abuse
A new law will allow investment advisors to alert authorities of potential financial exploitation of senior citizens.
Beginning July 1, investment advisors will have the immunity to report suspicions to law enforcement. Previously they were bound by confidentiality and reporting this potential crime would opened the door for a lawsuit or legal action.
Drug Take Back Event is Today
The 13th annual prescription drug take back initiative will take place at all Indiana State Police Posts today. The only location not accepting unwanted, unused, or expired prescription drugs is at the Toll Road Post.
A partnership between the Indiana State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration is making this possible. The event expects to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft through the proper disposal of prescription drugs.
Bremen Electric Provider to Offer Economic Development Incentive
The electric company that provides service to the Town of Bremen may soon offer incentives for new companies and existing companies that provide plans to expand.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said the Indiana Municipal Power Agency discussed the terms of the offer with the Bremen Town Council this week.
Plymouth City Council Approves Revitalization Rebate
The owners of A.S.K for Flowers appeared before the Plymouth City Council on Monday night to present a request for a commercial revitalization rebate.
The roof is being replaced at 105 and 107 N. Michigan Street and the owners are asking for a 20 percent rebate as part of the available program. The request was barely tardy in getting to the city to be put on the previous agenda prior to the start of the project. The company doing the replacement provided a timeline of last week or in May which is a busy season for the business.
Culver Library to Delay Marking Accessible Parking
Officials with the Culver-Union Township Public Library asked the Culver Town Council members to delay marking spaces for accessible parking as required by the American Disability Act. Town Manager Jonathan Leist presented the information where he explained the library board is waiting for the final design for the courtyard before designating areas for accessible parking.

Local Marching Band to Participate in IPL 500 Festival Parade
The Indy 500 Festival announced the participants in the 2017 IPL 500 Festival Parade.
The Marshall County Marching Band with 225 students from Plymouth, Bremen, LaVille, Triton, Culver, and Argos will perform in the 61st annual event on Saturday, May 27 in downtown Indianapolis. The combined band was organized by Plymouth High School Band Director Bryan Ames.

Culver EMS Looking to Fill Full-Time Paramedic Position
Culver EMS officials sought approval from the Culver Town Council to hire a paramedic for the third full-time ALS position.
Interviews are being conducted to backfill the full-time spot as the current paramedic will be filling a part-time paid position.
Lift Station Improvements to be Discussed in May 2 Meeting
The Bremen Redevelopment Commission will hold meeting on Tuesday, May 2 to discuss updates to the lift stations within the town’s wastewater system.
Bremen Director of Operations Trend Weldy said the project is anticipated to cost around $1 million.
Deferred Payment Ordinance Amendment Approved
The Plymouth City Council discussed an ordinance amendment concerning deferred payments for utility bills.
Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver believes a clerical error was made in the ordinance when the code book was codified in 2014. The current document states that all bills for water services not paid within 15 days from the due date are charged a 10 percent penalty. She noted that the common practice assesses a penalty 15 days after the billing date which is when the payment is due.

“U.S. News and World Report” Releases 2017 High School Rankings
Several local high schools are ranked among the best in Indiana by “U.S. News and World Report.” The publication reviewed more than 28,000 schools nationwide for its 2017 rankings, and 136 schools in Indiana made their “Best High Schools” rankings. The publication ranks schools based on their performance on state-required tests and how well they prepare students for college.

La Porte Man Charged with Drug Possession

A La Porte man was arrested in Marshall County late Tuesday night after police allegedly found him in possession of narcotics.
An officer with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 31 near the intersection of 16th Road. The officer reportedly found that the driver, John Sims, Jr. was impaired and in possession of numerous illegal drugs.
