Marshall County Council Approves Personnel Changes

A few Marshall County employees will be getting a raise, while others will get an updated job description. The county council approved several recommendations from the county’s personnel committee Monday.

The County Museum’s full-time assistant director position is currently vacant. Before the county goes about filling it, a few updates are being made to the job description, including a pay raise of up to $2 an hour.

To pay for the assistant director, Marshall County Museum Executive Director Linda Rippy plans to rearrange funding. Part-time employees will be paid out of the Historical Society Fund, freeing up money for the full-time position. An additional appropriation will also be required to cover the cost. Council members note that will include about $8,000 to provide benefits. The updates were approved by the council, in spite of opposition from Council President Judy Stone.

A couple personnel changes were also made for Community Corrections. A case manager position will see a pay increase of up to $1.50 an hour, while a part-time officer position is being changed from a salaried position to an hourly rate of $15.

The Marshall County Council also approved the creation of an interim full-time position for the Treasurer’s Office. Treasurer Angie Johnson Birchmeier told council members that the current first deputy is retiring at the end of March. The temporary position will let a current county employee train in the position before eventually taking over, without losing the benefits she’s already earned.

Updated job descriptions for the first deputy treasurer as well as the deputy coroner were also approved by the council Monday.
