The Culver Community Schools Corporation will soon be cracking down on families who owe the corporation money. The school board approved an agreement Monday allowing corporation attorney Jeff Houin to also serve as a collection agent.
Interim Superintendent Chuck Kitchell says Culver Schools consistently has a handful of families who rack up large amounts of debt in their accounts. “Simply by asking parents, they’re not always being able to pay us,” Kitchell told the school board Monday. “But we think with a little weight of an attorney – and eventually he will then threaten and/or take them to small claims court if it gets to that point. Again, we hope it doesn’t get to that point, but one more level of, ‘Hey, the school board attorney is now sending a letter about some of this money,’ we hope some of those parents will turn around and start paying some of that.”
Board members approved the contract with Houin unanimously.
