Marshall County Community Corrections’ request for state funding in 2018 has been approved by the County Council.
Community Corrections Director Ward Byers told council members Monday the grant application asks for over $335,000 next year. “The Department of Correction does approve that budget, he said, “so that amount could obviously go down, should they not approve of certain expenditures that we’ve asked for.”
He added the grant would cover all personnel costs, as well as the jail treatment program. “That is a program that provides services to the inmates that are being housed locally, that do not go to the Department of Correction, so that’s those Level 6, moderate-to-high-risk felons,” he explained. “So we’ve been utilizing grant money from the state to bring in the Bowen Center to provide some services. We’re also meeting later this week with the sheriff to bring in some additional technology to begin a GED program.”
The grant application got the support of the county commissioners and the Community Corrections Advisory Board last month, before getting final approval from the county council Monday. Now it gets sent to the Indiana Department of Correction.
