Marshall County has updated its prepayment policies to make it easier for the county’s Highway Department to pay the local share of matching grants.

County Attorney Jim Clevenger explained the proposed additions to the county commissioners Monday, “The highway administrator requested that we add an item for prepaid payment to the Indiana Department of Transportation invoices for county match payments on road and bridge projects to expedite the process. You all thought we should also add the engineering invoices for those same road or bridge projects.” The commissioners approved the updated ordinance on all three readings.

Also during Monday’s meeting, the commissioners voted to transfer ownership of a former Bremen gas station to the town. Clevenger said the town and county previously agreed to the transfer of the Clark station last year, but the town had some issues getting its resolution processed. A new resolution was approved by the county commissioners Monday, with the town council expected to pass a new resolution, as well.

Changes are also planned to Marshall County’s Ordinance Violation Bureau. “This pretty much reiterates that we’re going to have one and then attached to the item is an exhibit of the likely county ordinances that would be enforced through the bureau, and in most cases it includes the fines,” Clevenger told the commissioners.

They approved the ordinance on first reading. A public hearing will be held December 19, before the commissioners decide whether to give it their final approval.
