The Marshall County Council is moving ahead with funding arrangements for improvements to some county buildings. On Monday, council members approved some additional appropriations requested by the County Commissioners.
One of these was $180,000 for the County Health Department’s move to the Community Resource Center. That money will help cover the construction contract as well as additional setup costs. The move is designed to free up space at the Marshall County Building for the expansion of the County Prosecutor’s Office.
Meanwhile, the County Building is set to get some new air conditioning equipment. Specifically, the chiller has become unreliable, resulting in temperatures reaching the high 80s in the building earlier this year. The County Council approved an additional appropriation of $100,000 for the purpose, along with $110,000 for roof repair at the County Museum and $55,000 for a new generator for the Highway Department. Those three projects are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
On top of that, a $142,000 appropriation was approved for the purchase of new electronic poll pads and upgrades to the county’s voting machines. Storage issues with the machines caused delays in counting up the votes during May’s primary elections. The additional poll pads are expected to reduce lines at vote centers.
