Verizon Hopes to Boost Cell Phone Coverage in Centennial Park

Plymouth IndianaIncreased cell phone coverage may be coming to Centennial Park in Plymouth. Last year, Verizon had a truck placed in the park to provide additional coverage during the Marshall County Blueberry Festival. Now, the company’s looking for a year-round solution.

Plymouth Park Superintendent Michael Hite told the Board of Works this week that Verizon has asked the city about placing repeater antennas on some of the telephone poles in the park. As part of the potential agreement, the city would receive payment for the lease of the space.

During this week’s Board of Works meeting, a proposal was received from Jacobs Engineering Group, the firm that would actually be leasing the space. Hite added that if the company finds the existing poles unsuitable for the new technology, they would replace them with new ones.

The Plymouth Park Board is expected to consider the proposal during its meeting Monday.
