This month, the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ will be honoring their rich and lengthy history with a weekend-long event called “Coming Home to Celebrate the 150th Anniversary of Poor Handmaid Presence in America.”

Celebrate Earth Day with a Wildflower Walk at River Park Square this Weekend

Nature lovers of all ages are invited to attend the Earthworks Wildflower Walk at River Park Square in Plymouth!

Adam Thada, the Director of Ecological Relationships at the Center at Donaldson will be leading the walk along the Yellow River on Sunday from 2:30 p.m. until around 3 p.m.

According to event organizers, aside from identifying riverside plant species and the flowers that are beginning to bloom, Thada will also point out some effects that recent floods left behind and discuss their impact on the local ecology. Continue reading

Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ to Celebrate 150 Years in America

In 2018 the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ will celebrate 150 years of their presence in America. A number of activities are planned for the coming year to acknowledge a century and a half of service from these dedicated congregation members. To kick off the year-long celebration, an opening prayer service and public reception is scheduled at The Center at Donaldson on Sunday, December 31st from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. ET.

Back in 1868, while our country was dealing with the aftermath of the Civil War, the foundress of the congregation, Catherine Kasper, missioned the first Poor Handmaids to America. Continue reading

Christmas at The Center at Donaldson This Sunday

Center at Donaldson will be hosting their Christmas event on Sunday, December 10th. The event will kick-off with the children’s choral performance at 3 p.m. ET, followed by family activities from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Children will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with Santa and can even decorate a frame for their picture. Other activities include face painting and cookie decorating. Continue reading

Ancilla Domini Community Choir and Orchestra to Perform Handel’s Messiah

The Ancilla Domini Community Choir and Orchestra is performing George Frideric Handel’s Messiah on Saturday, November 18th at 7 p.m. in the Ancilla Domini Chapel at The Center for Donaldson.

Choir and orchestra members started rehearsing back in September and later this month, they’ll perform their version of Handel’s Messiah, one of the most immensely popular and widely performed pieces of Christian music.

The performance will be conducted by Andrew Jennings, who is the director of the Ancilla Domini Community Choir, a voice instructor at Ancilla and the director of liturgy and music for the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ. Continue reading

Ancilla College Schedules July Open House

An open house for high school athletes, adults and military veterans is set for Thursday, July 20 at Ancilla College.

Prospective students interested in earning a college degree can visit the campus from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Counselors, faculty and staff will be on hand to answer any questions about a wide variety of degree options, scholarships, classes, plus campus programs and activities.
