Marshall County Jail Inmates have been helping out with restoration efforts at the historic courthouse in Plymouth.
First built in the early 1870’s, the Marshall County Courthouse is listed on the national register of historic places. In order to restore it to its former glory, upgrades and renovations are currently being conducted there. Continue reading
It is the hope of the Plymouth Clerk-Treasurer’s staff that they can move into the renovated office space in the Plymouth City Building this Friday. The project has been delayed several months due to a stairwell design issue and other issues that have come up during the course of the renovation process.
At last week’s Culver School Board meeting, it was announced that the Junior/Senior High cafeteria renovation project is coming along well. Superintendent Karen Shuman told board members that the first phases of the project will be wrapping up as soon as the new furnishing comes in.
Jr./Sr. High School Principal Brett Berndt shared that the new furniture should be arriving sometime this week or early next week. Continue reading
Updates about ongoing projects were provided at the Plymouth Redevelopment Commission meeting earlier this week. According to City Attorney Sean Surrisi, construction at the Plymouth City Building could be finished sooner than the proposed completion date.
Initially, the contract called for the renovations to be complete by June 29th 2018. Due to some changes in how construction is being conducted, that date could move up to late May or early June.
Surrisi explained that when the contract was drawn up, it was understood that contractors would have to work around the mayor and clerk-treasurer who planned to stay in the building during renovations. However, since the city rented the space at 118 N Michigan Street, contractors will no longer need to work around city employees. Continue reading
The search for a new Park Director hasn’t slowed down efforts to rehabilitate the park lodge in Culver.
Right now, applications are being accepted for the position – which was vacated at the end of 2015 by Marc Hayden. He unexpectedly accepted a position as an aquatics instructor with a school corporation in St. Joseph County.

Phase One of the renovation to St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Plymouth is now complete.
The Health System is undertaking an extensive two-part construction project. Phase One oversaw the expansion of the Emergency Department – which now sits at a comfortable 8-thousand square feet.
