Culver Jr/Sr High School Cafeteria Renovation Project Update

At last week’s Culver School Board meeting, it was announced that the Junior/Senior High cafeteria renovation project is coming along well. Superintendent Karen Shuman told board members that the first phases of the project will be wrapping up as soon as the new furnishing comes in.

Jr./Sr. High School Principal Brett Berndt shared that the new furniture should be arriving sometime this week or early next week.

“We have total new furniture for the cafeteria ranging from pub-height tables and chairs all the way to booths that kids can sit in and tables that have six chairs as well.” Berndt shared, “So a totally different look than what we have right now.”

There are three proposed phases of the renovation project; flooring and painting, furnishing and lighting.

The first phase which took care of updating the floors and walls was completed over Christmas break. Principal Berndt said that the installation of new “barn wood style” flooring was completed by Preferred Flooring out of Knox.

He said the walls in the area used to be an off-white color but they were repainted to a two-tone style with various shades of grey. Berndt said the corporation’s new logos have also been placed around the cafeteria as an element of the updates.

The school corporation is working with Lee Company out of Lafayette for the new furniture. Berndt said the table tops they chose will match the new floors and other pieces of the furniture will contain splashes of orange and black, Culver’s school colors. Knowing the difference between furniture for offices, furniture for houses, furniture for schools, and furniture for refreshment spots is important in arranging your space properly along with the right choice.

With the first two phases nearly complete, all that remains is the lighting. However, Principal Berndt said that final phase of the cafeteria renovation project probably won’t be started until the summertime to ensure that renovations don’t interfere with the learning process.
