Plymouth Community School Board to Meet Tonight
The Plymouth Community School Board will meet tonight. This will be the first regular school board meeting with the corporation’s newly installed superintendent, Andrew Hartley.
The board will consider the St. Joseph Regional Medical Center nurses contract for 2017-2018 and revisions to the classified staff conditions of employment. An agreement for residential services will be discussed as well as an appointment to the library board and the local bargaining unit MASE Insurance Trustee.
Plymouth High School Receives State AP Honor

Preliminary Timeline Given for Lincoln Junior High Project
A proposed timeline for the construction of the Lincoln Junior High School project was released during the Plymouth Community School Board meeting last week.
Superintendent Dan Tyree said no petitions against the project were filed within the 30 day period since the public hearing on the project so the board can move forward with plans. The corporation plans to purchase property at the far east of the junior high. The property is needed to accommodate a 50-foot setback requirement for fire safety.
Plymouth Community School Board Receives Information on Performance Products
There are some body building products sold over the counter that could cause harm to athletes and cause a liability issue at the Plymouth Community School Corporation. That’s what Team Physician Dr. Tod Stillson explained to the Plymouth Community School Board on Monday night.
He said it’s a national issue and he wants to ensure proper health for student athletes. There are some products that aren’t regulated by the FDA that people use everyday. Dr. Stillson said there are other measures in place that restrict various types of materials brought into the schools and he thinks these types of products should not be found on school property.
New Principal Named at Washington Discovery Academy
After reviewing 30 applicants, the Plymouth Community School Board approved the hire of Lauren Cooper as the new principal at Washington Discovery Academy.
Cooper has been with the Plymouth Community School Corporation for nine years. She previously served as a teacher and instructional coach at Menominee Elementary School, Jefferson Elementary School and Washington Discovery Academy. Before her employment at Plymouth she was a first grade teacher at Queen of All Saints Catholic School in Michigan City where she began her career in education.
Plymouth Community School Board Appoints New Superintendent
Plymouth Community School Corporation Assistant Superintendent Andrew Hartley was appointed as the corporation’s new superintendent. The action was made official by a unanimous vote by the Plymouth Community School Board members Wednesday night.
Hartley will be replacing Dan Tyree as superintendent when Tyree retires at the end of the month.
