Continue readingIf you receive a call from someone claiming to be a U.S. Marshal, be wary of their instructions. The Federal Trade Commission is warning people about a recent scam involving impostors threatening individuals with arrest in order to get money from them.
Consumer Education Specialist Bridget Small said that U.S. Marshals do a lot of things, they protect the federal courts, track down dangerous fugitives and transport thousands of prisoners. If you see a pop-up saying your computer has a virus, there’s a good chance it’s a scam. That’s according to Indiana Attorney General Curtis Hill.
Be aware of a phone scam in the Plymouth area.
According to Plymouth officials, the scam artist is using the city’s name and asking for credit card information. The caller ID shows the number originating from a city department. The recorded message said the person was from the City of Plymouth and needed the victim’s credit card information.
Senior citizens are reminded to be alert for scam phone calls this tax season. Scammers go to great lengths to sound like they’re from the Internal Revenue Service, but they’re not. For example, they may use fake names or badge numbers, and may also use a fake caller ID number. Continue reading

The company says it’s heard from a number of customers who say they’ve gotten suspicious calls from people claiming to be NIPSCO employees.
