The Marshall County Commissioners were again asked Monday morning to place a moratorium on large-scale solar farms on agriculture land by Culver residents Debbie VanDeMark and Paul Levett who requested to take a step back to review the ordinance with the Marshall County Plan Commission to better “protect the county”.

Marshall County Plan Commission President Stan Klotz went before the county council Monday morning to ask for an interim deputy plan commission director position with the impending retirement of Ralph Booker.
Marshall County Commissioners Adopt Ordinance for LaPaz Property Rezoning Request
A public hearing was held on Monday concerning the rezoning of a property in LaPaz for the opportunity of economic development on a property located just north of U.S. 6 in LaPaz by the new interchange. The zoning classification would go from A-1 Agriculture to a C-2 Highway Commercial District zone.
Plan Director Ralph Booker explained to the Marshall County Commissioners that the rezoning would extend the highway business district in that area for economic development. No commitments were made as part of the zoning request, but six acres is available to improve economic development in the town. The state owns several other parcels in that area.
Marshall County Commissioners Reorganize, Make 2017 Appointments
The Marshall County Commissioners reorganized for 2017 Tuesday, as new member Mike Delp took his seat for the first time. The former Plymouth councilman replaces Deb Griewank as District 2 commissioner. During Tuesday’s meeting, Commissioner Kevin Overmyer was reelected board president, while Kurt Garner replaces Griewank as vice president. Continue reading
Mobile Home Park Owner Disputes Marshall County Permitting Requirements
The owner of a couple of mobile home parks appeared before the Marshall County Commissioners Monday, saying he should be exempt from the county’s permitting requirements. Ralph Costello, who owns the Gatewood Estates and Creek Side mobile home parks, says he should not have to get a permit every time his parks decide to move or demolish a mobile home, since the parks predate the county’s zoning laws.
