Inmate Programs Will Soon be Expanded at the Marshall County Jail

In a recent media advisory, Marshall County Sheriff Matthew Hassel, in collaboration with Marshall County Community Corrections, proudly announced the expansion of current Inmate Programs offered at the County Jail.

The newly introduced Marshall County Jail Chemical Addictions Program (MCJCAP) aims to give men and women struggling with addictions a second chance. The program will incorporate existing Moral Reconation Therapy with the Smart Recovery Substance Abuse Program and Fatherhood Initiative Program as well as group and individual life skills coaching. Four Arrested on Drug Charges in La Paz

Four people were arrested on drug charges Tuesday afternoon in La Paz.

According to police, Indiana State Police Troopers from the Bremen Post were called to check on a suspicious blue Dodge pickup at the Speedway station on U.S. 6 just east of old U.S. 31. Police say four people were inside the vehicle. The Plymouth K9 unit was dispatched to the scene and reportedly indicated the presence of drugs. Methamphetamine, needles and other drug paraphernalia were allegedly found during a probable cause search of the vehicle.

Tharpe Arrested on Public Intoxication Charge

A Plymouth man was arrested Monday night after police say he attempted to enter several cars on Michigan Street.

According to a report from the Plymouth Police Department, officers were called to the area of Michigan Street and Goshen Road after complaints were received about a man causing a traffic hazard. The man was reportedly attempting to enter several vehicles. Police say an off-duty Marshall County Sheriff’ Department officer arrived at the scene and told Plymouth officers that the man approached his car as well.

Plymouth Woman Arrested on Suspicion of False Informing

A Plymouth woman was taken into custody on Friday afternoon after allegedly providing with police with false information.

During an unrelated investigation, a Plymouth police officer spoke to the woman at the Economy Inn and she allegedly gave the officer false information. When the officer went to verify information, she reportedly attempted to run from the officer on foot. She was detained and she continued to resist the officer, according to the report.

Bourbon Traffic Stop Results in Three Arrests

A few hours after midnight on Sunday, Bourbon Police Officer Adam Kraning conducted a traffic stop on south Main Street at 13th Trail, according to a media advisory.

In a police report written by Kraning, he said he stopped driver Jared Whitfield for traffic and vehicle violations shortly before 2:30 a.m. The officer said that while speaking with Whitfield he smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle and the driver’s breathe. Two people were arrested following a traffic stop early Tuesday morning in Marshall County.

A Marshall County sheriff’s deputy pulled over a light blue Chrysler Concord passenger vehicle in 11,000 block of Veterans Parkway and U.S. 31 after the driver allegedly committed several traffic violations. Continue reading

Teen Arrested after Entering Plymouth Home

A Plymouth teenager was arrested Sunday morning after entering a residence in the 300 Block of Plum Street.

Plymouth police say 19-year-old Edgar Herrera attempted to break open a window at the residence. Herrera made it to door and when the homeowner opened the door Herrera entered the residence, according to the report. Herrera then reportedly laid down on the owner’s couch and went to sleep. Five Arrested, Following Plymouth Drug Investigation

A drug investigation in Plymouth led to the arrests of five people Friday morning. Officers from the Indiana State Police, Plymouth Police Department, and the Marshall County Drug Task Force say they served a search warrant at 212 Monroe Street. Police say they had gotten complaints about possible drug activity at the home, which is close to St. Michael Catholic School.

Arrest Made at Indiana State Police Bremen Post

On Tuesday, October 24th Indiana State Trooper Patrick O’Keefe arrested a Greenfield man for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he drove to the Indiana State Police Bremen Post to speak to the trooper.

According to the Indiana State Police press release, O’Keefe made arrangements to meet 57-year-old Scott Schroeder at the Indiana State Police Bremen Post in order for Schroeder to retrieve some of his belongings from a separate incident. The release states that Schroeder arrived at the post around 5:30 p.m., parked out front and went to the door to meet O’Keefe. Continue reading

Two Arrested after Traffic Stop

Two Knox residents were arrested overnight Friday after a traffic stop in the area of Rose Road and Lincoln Highway in Marshall County.

Marshall County Police say a K9 searched the 2006 Kia passenger vehicle and indicated the presence of narcotics. Officers reportedly found two used syringes under the passenger seat, plus 3.5 grams of heroin hidden underneath the floor carpeting on the driver’s side. Other items of drug paraphernalia were also allegedly collected.

Culver Man Arrested on Suspicion of Auto Theft

A Culver man was arrested Wednesday after Marshall County police received a call about an apparent car theft from a residence in the 7,000 block of 11A Road.

An officer with the Bourbon Police Department conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle reportedly matching the description of the stolen vehicle. During the course of the investigation, police reportedly found 58-year-old Ronald Bryan Finchum in possession of methamphetamine.

Finchum was booked into the Marshall County Jail on preliminary felony charges of auto theft and possession of methamphetamine.

Cowger Formally Charged after Jail Fight

An inmate in the Marshall County Jail who allegedly hit a police officer during a fight in the jail has been formally charged.

On Sept. 13 at 8:25 p.m., Zachary Cowger, 22, allegedly hit Marshall County Jail Officer Billy Schoff in the head twice during a confrontation in the Marshall County Jail. According to the affidavit for probable cause, Jailer Schoff observed Cowger and another inmate in a pod violating jail rules and Cowger refused to comply with commands given over the intercom. Jailer Schoff left the observation room to confront Cowger when the alleged incident occurred.
