Marshall County Commissioners Approve Bridge Inspection Contract with INDOT

Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters presented County Commissioners with a bridge inspection contract when they met Monday night.

Peters first stated that an agreement between the county and USI Consultants, the company that will be performing the inspections, has already been made and he noted that contract was approved during a past meeting.

He explained the contract presented this week is between the county and the Indiana Department of Transportation. Continue reading

Marshall County Community Crossings Project Nearly Complete

Work is continuing on one of Marshall County’s Community Crossings projects.

Work on South Michigan Street from Dewey Street to State Road 110 is complete. Walsh and Kelly Project Manager Nick Relias told MAX News that the milling and paving project took about a week to complete. An inch of asphalt was removed and an inch-and-half of asphalt was installed. Striping will be complete soon.

Road Reclaiming Process to Continue in Marshall County Over the Next Few Days

The reclaiming process will continue on several sections of road in Marshall County today, according to Highway Supervisor Jason Peters.

Peters reports that work will be done on Cedar Road from 12th to 11th, on 11th Road from Cedar to SR 331, on Cedar Road from 11th to 10b Road and on 10b Road from SR 331 to the County Line. Peters warns motorists to anticipate road work on these sections over the next few days. He said these sections of road are under the current road program to be resurfaced from mid-June to July first. Continue reading

Marshall County Highway Supervisor Discusses FEMA Assessment with Commissioners

Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters updated the commissioners on
FEMA’s recent visit and their assessment of the county’s roads, bridges and culverts after suffering flood damage.

He said FEMA looked at the county’s local and minor roads to determine what kind of funding would be available if the state meets the threshold for reimbursement. All major roads would need to be addressed by different group of people and Peters said he will make some phone calls this week.

Marshall County Commissioners to Meet Today, Public Hearing Scheduled

The Marshall County Commissioners will meet today.

Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters will have an update on flood damage and other projects. A representative from the Telamon Corporation will have a presentation on energy savings and representatives from Dossett Consulting will discuss Title IV child support claims. Overtime wages for a security officer will be considered.

Residents Affected by Flood Waters Attend Informational Meeting

Some Marshall County residents are still without shelter as they sift through wreckage of the place they formerly called home.

Several representatives from disaster relief organizations reminded residents of the efforts of volunteers to help put back the pieces after the devastation. Linda Yoder with the Long Term Recovery organization said 2-1-1 is available to assist with any questions and help direct victims to the best resources for specific issues.

Marshall County Highway Crews Continue to Assess Flood Damage

Crews with the Marshall County Highway Department continue to assess roads after the flood event, but some remain under water and cannot be reviewed. Some roads remain closed due to high water. As of Friday, only 18 roads remain closed or with a high water barricade. Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters told the Marshall County Commissioners Monday morning that number has dwindled considerably since the waters started to rise significantly on Feb. 20.

Marshall County Highway Supervisor Jason Peters will present the 2018 proposed road plan to the commissioners. Marshall County Museum Executive Director Linda Rippy will have her quarterly report and Health Administrator Christine Stinson will present a nomination for the board of health.
