Hepatitis Testing Available at Marshall County Health Department

The Marshall County Health Department has free screening available for Hepatitis C.

According to Marshall County Health Department Administrator Christine Stinson, Hepatitis C can be acute or chronic. Acute hepatitis infection symptoms include nausea, vomiting, weight loss, abdominal pain, and jaundice. Chronic hepatitis C can last a lifetime with no visible symptoms. It can lead to cirrhosis of the liver or liver cancer.

Stinson invites Marshall County residents to get a free screening in the health department office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The test is simple and only takes 20 minutes to get results. No appointment is necessary.

The Marshall County Health Department is located in the Community Resource Center at 510 West Adams Street in Plymouth.

Marshall County Health Department Urging Residents to Use Caution During Clean Up and Recovery

As individuals transition from reacting to recovering, Marshall County Health officials are urging residents to use extreme caution while dealing with floodwaters.

In a statement released today, Marshall County Health Department Administrator Christine Stinson said the flood of 2018 will most certainly leave devastation behind. She added that though everyone will want to clean up and repair their homes and communities as quickly as possible, we must remember that floodwaters and the remains of floodwaters are dangerous to your health. Marshall County Health Department Receives Grant

The Marshall County Health Department is the recipient of a $2,500 mini grant from the Indiana State Association of County and City Health Officials.

According to Marshall County Health Department Administrator Christine Stinson, the grant funds would be used as a voucher program to test known IV drug users for Hepatitis C as she feels that is a population that needs more health study.

Grant Request Approved for Marshall County Health Department

Marshall County Health Department Administrator Christine Stinson asked the county council to approve a grant request application for a $2,500 mini grant from the Indiana State Association of County and City Health Officers.

Marshall County Health Department to Update Fees

The Marshall County Health Department will be holding a public hearing in July in order to amend some fees within the department.

Health Department Administrator Christine Stinson told the Marshall County Commissioners this week that the cost of birth and death certificates will double to $10 and paternity affidavits will increase to $35.00. New well permits will be $150 and well replacement or repair will be $100. That covers the cost of testing which detects bacteria, nitrates and arsenic.
