Marshall County was recently awarded a Broadband Readiness Planning Grant through OCRA’s Community Development Block Grant Program.
Officials from Marshall County, as well as the towns of Bremen, Bourbon, Culver and La Paz collaborated to apply for the grant.
Marshall County was selected as one of five recipients to be a part of the pilot program that will educate and help shape how broadband can be established throughout the entire state, according to OCRA Executive Director Jodi Golden.
The deadline is approaching for candidates to file to run in the May primary. Candidates have until Friday at noon to file their paperwork with the county clerk’s office. The list of candidates continues to grow in Marshall County. Democrat Angie Rupchoch-Schafer has filed to run for the District 4 County Council seat, challenging incumbent Republican Judy Stone.
The number of contested races is starting to add up, heading into the May primary. District 1 Marshall County Commissioner Kurt Garner has two challengers so far: David W. Hostetler and Stan Klotz. Three candidates are also looking to become the next Marshall County Recorder: Anna “Buffy” Breeding, William Cleavenger, and Janet Howard.
The first day of candidate filing ended with a few contested races in Marshall County. The county recorder’s race already has two candidates: Republicans Janet Howard and Anna “Buffy” Breeding. Meanwhile, current recorder Marlene Mahler is running against Bruce Snyder for Union Township trustee.
Two requests to waive probationary pay for employees were discussed by the Marshall County Council this week.
Community Corrections Director Ward Byers requested waiver for a new case manager who comes to the department with a wealth of experience from Ohio. In addition, the case manager’s pay is based on a federal grant.
