Clarence Shearer Sentenced to 26 Years for LifePlex Carjacking

A man found guilty of a Plymouth carjacking has been sentenced to 26 years in the Indiana Department of Correction, but he still faces charges related to the subsequent police chase, wreck of a police car, and death of a police K-9. The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office says Clarence Shearer, 33, was sentenced last week in Marshall Superior Court 1, after a jury last month found him guilty of armed robbery and theft.

Lifeplex Dance Academy is Throwing a Fall Ball Tonight

The Lifeplex Dance Academy is encouraging community members to fall in love with dance at tonight’s Fall Ball. The event will run from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m and will be catered by Fusion Café.

From 6 until 7 o’clock tonight there will be line dancing that will feature various styles of music such as Latin, country, R&B and more. From 7 to 9 p.m. the Sentimental Journey’s Band will be performing live, playing 40s and 60s style music. New Project Elements Revealed During Plymouth Redevelopment Commission Meeting

The Plymouth Redevelopment Commission provided a financial and structural overview of the Aquatic Center Project that will be built adjacent to the LifePlex when they met earlier this week. City Attorney Sean Surrisi explained that while 2.2 million dollars of grant money received through the Regional Cities Initiative will be used for the Aquatic Center, new funds have become available that will allow for more structures to be constructed with this project. Racing for Recovery Founder to Speak Tonight at LifePlex

Addict turned triathlete Todd Crandall will share his story of overcoming a 13-year addiction to drugs and alcohol with the community during a program tonight at LifePlex in Plymouth. Crandall is the founder and president of Racing for Recovery. It’s a nonprofit organization that strives to save lives and improve the quality of life for addicts and their friends and family by promoting a lifestyle of health, fitness and sobriety. Crandall first tried alcohol at age 13 to cope with the depression and confusion of his mother’s suicide 10 years earlier due to her struggles with addiction. For the next 13 years Crandall says he tried every type of drug he could get his hands on before making the decision to quit. Continue reading

Recovering Addict Shares Story With Local Students

With sobriety, anything is possible. That’s the message addict turned triathlete Todd Crandell is sharing with students in Starke and Marshall Counties during Red Ribbon Week. He first tried alcohol when he was 13. Crandall says his life was” normal on the outside” but he was pretty emotionally distraught due to his Mom’s suicide 10 years earlier due to her struggles with addiction.

“I had a giant void that I was looking for something to fill it with, and unfortunately trying alcohol at age 13 was the catalyst for the next 13 years of destruction,” Crandall said.

He says he used “anything I could get my hands on” to try to numb the pain. Continue reading
