An energy efficiency rebate check was presented during Monday’s school board meeting, according to Superintendent Karen Shuman. “NIPSCO, Lockheed, and Trane were here to present us a check for $43,403.35,” she says.
Continue readingA number of farmers and rural businesses will be able to lower their energy costs, thanks to funding from the USDA’s Rural Energy for America Program. Locally, Treat’s Squire Shop in Plymouth is getting $1,500 to buy and install LED lighting. The USDA says that will save enough energy to power four homes a year and should lower the business’s annual energy costs by more than $4,000.

Last November, voters agreed to let the school district raise property taxes by up to 17 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for an eight-year period. The Marshall County Commissioners are taking measures to save the county money in energy costs.
The Marshall County Commissioners may approve a contract soon with the Telemon Energy Corporation to upgrade the lighting in the county building, courthouse, annex, and highway department building.
The Plymouth Street Department’s main building and cold storage will get a lighting upgrade.
Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt told the Plymouth City Council members last week that they are no longer able to find the fluorescent bulbs for the building at a reasonable rate. A light survey was done by the members of the company who completed other lighting projects for other city buildings. It was determined that the fixtures to accommodate LED lighting would cost nearly $30,000. The street department crew will install the fixtures.
