More lane closures are scheduled to hit U.S. 30 Monday. INDOT says U.S. 30 will again be down to one lane in each direction between State Road 39 and U.S. 35 for bridge work over the Kankakee River and Shearing Ditch.

Better water quality may soon be coming to some local lakes, thanks to the latest round of Lake and River Enhancement grants from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Koontz Lake was awarded $100,000 and Lake Maxinkuckee got over $46,000 for wetland enhancement. Lake Bruce was awarded almost $47,000 for water quality monitoring.

The National Weather Service continues to predict flooding along local rivers. The Kankakee River at Davis is predicted to reach the minor flood stage Monday afternoon and crest Tuesday morning. Minor flooding is also predicted at Dunns Bridge starting Wednesday evening.

Purdue Extension Agriculture Educator Phil Woolery mentioned that the severity of impact will depend on how long a farmers’ field stays underwater. Flood warnings continue throughout the local area, and some rivers could reach record levels in the coming days. In Plymouth, the Yellow River has risen above 17 feet, surpassing a record set in 1954, according to the National Weather Service.
