Traffic Stop Leads to Search Warrant and Drug Arrest

Indiana State Police Troopers arrested two people after a traffic stop turned into a more in-depth investigation.

A traffic stop was initiated by Indiana State Police troopers on Wednesday near LaPaz. Assistance was requested by the Plymouth Police Department K-9 and that K-9 reportedly indicated that drugs were in the vehicle. Police say methamphetamines, a handgun, scales and other drug paraphernalia were found in the car. The driver, Latisha Weaver/Nies-Scott, was booked into the Marshall County Jail on a preliminary charge of dealing methamphetamines over five grams with a firearm.

Indiana State Police Troopers Urge Drivers to Buckle up

With the investigation of two separate vehicle accidents that ejected multiple people out of vehicles, Indiana State Police troopers urge drivers and passengers to use seat belts.

Indiana law requires all passengers to be restrained while in a moving vehicle. Children and adults need to be properly restrained while the vehicle is in operation. If anyone is observed not wearing a seat belt, law enforcement can write a ticket for the law violation.

Marshall County Safety Commission Discusses Blocked Railroad Crossings

The Marshall County Safety Commission heard concerns about trains stopped at crossings which creates an issue when buses are transporting students to and from school.

Cindy King from the John Glenn School Corporation said there are at least three instances a week where a train blocks a bus route for buses transporting students to school. She said a new route will have to be constructed for next year.

Indiana State Police officers and Marshall County Sheriff Tom Chamberlin both indicated that they have talked with Norfolk Southern and CSX officials and the issues are getting better. Several tickets have been written to the engineers to help curb the issue.
