
E&B Paving begins street and sidewalk work in the Town of Culver next week.

Town Manager Jonathan Leist said 12 different segments were bid. Bids were received from Phend and Brown at about $463,237, Rieth Riley around $479,600 and E&B Paving at $296,756.
School Street, Slate Street, and Madison are the main roads that will receive updates.
The town council voted to take the bids under advisement and award one at the next meeting on April 9. Leist and Utility Superintendent Bob Porter will review the bids and come back with a recommendation.

Continue readingThe Culver Town Council members are continuing discussions about the demolition of the former City Tavern building at 415 Lakeshore Drive.
If the owner of the building does not demolish the building by Feb. 28, the town has authorization to move forward with demolition, as court ordered.
In case the town needs to perform the action, Town Manager Jonathan Leist he is going to contact firms so the town can move forward with environmental services. He will obtain information on costs for a phase of the process. Leist said he also spoke to Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt to put together demolition specifications for the property.
The condition of the former City Tavern building at 415 Lakeshore Drive in Culver has been discussed for several years and issues increase as time goes on. The reason for the environmental services is that there is mold inside the building and last year the neighbors complained of the pungent odor emitting from the rotting structure.
More information will be presented in March.
During the arctic blast experienced at the end of January, Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist alerted the Town Council members last week that two utility customers were charged for water meters that broke after they were frozen. Leist said the meters were not well insulated at the time.

After finalizing specifications, Fire Chief Terry Wakefield says the department has settled on a 101-foot ladder truck with truck LED lights. “We thought we wanted a basket,” he told the town council during a work session Tuesday. “We kind of went away from getting a basket. What we did was we came up with a vehicle that fits in our station, that we won’t have to alter the height or width of the doors.”

Continue readingThe Culver Town Council gave its final approval to the town’s 2019 salary ordinance Tuesday. It was previously explained that the ordinance includes a 50-cent increase for all hourly employees, as well as an incentive for street, water, or wastewater employees who earn certifications. It also outlines how town employees who serve on the fire department will be compensated for responding to calls during business hours.
The idea of allowing alcoholic beverages in the Culver Beach Lodge during private events drew a mixed reaction during a public input session held by the town council Tuesday. Such a move might make it easier to hold weddings at the new Damore Amphitheater, followed by a reception in the Beach Lodge. The town is looking at putting policies in place that would allow people to rent the amphitheater, including potential fees and guidelines.
The fundraising effort for an aerial fire truck for the Culver-Union Township Fire Department has ended.
One unsafe structure in Culver is scheduled for demolition this week.
