Continue readingThe Culver Town Council members are continuing discussions about the demolition of the former City Tavern building at 415 Lakeshore Drive.
If the owner of the building does not demolish the building by Feb. 28, the town has authorization to move forward with demolition, as court ordered.
In case the town needs to perform the action, Town Manager Jonathan Leist he is going to contact firms so the town can move forward with environmental services. He will obtain information on costs for a phase of the process. Leist said he also spoke to Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt to put together demolition specifications for the property.
The condition of the former City Tavern building at 415 Lakeshore Drive in Culver has been discussed for several years and issues increase as time goes on. The reason for the environmental services is that there is mold inside the building and last year the neighbors complained of the pungent odor emitting from the rotting structure.
More information will be presented in March.
During the arctic blast experienced at the end of January, Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist alerted the Town Council members last week that two utility customers were charged for water meters that broke after they were frozen. Leist said the meters were not well insulated at the time.

The ordinance outlines a 20 percent increase in Advanced Life Support Level 2 involving paramedic duties to $1,020, Advanced Life Support Level 1 involving duties of advanced EMTs to $660, and Basic Life Support to $540.
Advanced Life Support treatment with no transport would be $150, Basic Life Support treatment with no transport would be $50 or at the discretion of the EMS Director, and miles would be determined at $12.50 per loaded mile.
The second reading and adoption of the ordinance will follow advertisement of the rates.
A public hearing concerning the adjustment of ambulance rates will be held tonight during the Culver Town Council meeting.

After finalizing specifications, Fire Chief Terry Wakefield says the department has settled on a 101-foot ladder truck with truck LED lights. “We thought we wanted a basket,” he told the town council during a work session Tuesday. “We kind of went away from getting a basket. What we did was we came up with a vehicle that fits in our station, that we won’t have to alter the height or width of the doors.”

Organizer Tony Sellers said the event will be held February 8 through 10, and many of last year’s attractions will be returning. “Last year, we added on the ice fights and the beer garden, which went really well,” he said. “The ice fights – it was a huge success. We were seeing a lot of seasonal residents back in town that weekend, was what we really noticed, which was good.”

He said he thinks the deer population is getting out of hand. “There’s some movement within the various county areas to consider approaching the DNR for a special hunt,” he said. “I don’t think there’s anything, obviously, we can do now, but my suggestion is that we contact the DNR, find out what we might have to do for next year.”

It was the first meeting for members Bill Githens and Bill Cleavenger since their election in November and the second meeting for member Rich West, after he filled Tammy Shaffer’s seat last month. The town council voted to retain Ginny Bess Munroe as council president and chose Githens to serve as vice-president for the year.
