The Culver Town Council members will hold two public hearings on the proposed Culver Beach Lodge renovation project as one of the projects in the Stellar Communities Designation Program.
Public Hearings to be Held on Stellar Communities Designation Projects in Culver
The projects funded by the Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) as part of the Stellar Communities Designation Program in Culver will undergo public hearings this month and in May.
Three OCRA-Funded Projects in Culver Reviewed for Application Submission Today
Three projects that will be funded with grant money from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs recently were reviewed by Culver Stellar Community members and Shannon McLeod from Priority Project Resources last week. Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist told the town council members this week that the overview of the applications for those projects are due today that include plans for the Culver Beach Lodge, Cavalier Park and Lake Max programming. The applications will undergo state and environmental review and historical preservation aspects.
Culver Winterfest Event Continues Today
The Town of Culver’s Winterfest in Culver continues today in the Culver Town Park.
Enjoy sledding, igloos and fun in the snow all day today with a survivor car giveaway, additional outdoor activities for the kids, the Cupid’s Crawl shopping event at 3 p.m., the ice sculpture fights from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and a light up the park event from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Culver Stellar Communities Project Timeline Taking Shape
The Town of Culver reached “stellar” status late last year with the Stellar Community Designation Program designation and with that comes several large projects to increase tourism and overall appeal to the lake town.
There is a four-year timeline in which to complete the projects outlined in the Culver’s strategic investment plan.
Don’t Miss Your Chance to Visit with Animals from the North Pole At Culver Beach Lodge This Saturday
Culver Beach Lodge is hosting a special “Silly Safaris” Presentation tomorrow, featuring animals from the North Pole. The free, all-ages program will start at 11 a.m. ET and last until noon.
According to the organization website, this specific program focuses on animals native to the Arctic Circle, one of the world’s harshest environments.The presentation will feature a reindeer and may also include another mammal, a bird, a frog, a reptile, and a few insects to display the variety of creatures that inhabit this area. Culver Town Council Gets “Stellar” News
Culver Town Manager Jonathan Leist delivered some “stellar” news Tuesday night to the town council members pertaining to funding for projects within the town’s designation as a Stellar Community.
“We had our first meeting with the grant administrative staff from the state and found out for our Community Development Block Grant funding through OCRA that they basically set aside $2 million for us,” said Leist. “A lot of that we’ll use at the Culver Beach Lodge and Cavalier Sports Park. That is a significant chunk of change that won’t require a local match at all. It’s very good news!”
Relocation of Culver and Lake Maxinkuckee Visitor’s Center Discussed
The Culver Town Council members revisited a request this week from Becca Pazin with the Culver and Lake Maxinkuckee Visitor’s Center to move her office from the bank building downtown to the Culver Beach Lodge.
She explained that the change in location would create better visibility of the office for tourists. Her office would be located on the third floor of the beach lodge. The move also allows more space for her especially in terms of meeting space. She could have more private conversations with visitors to the visitor’s center or clients to discuss business. There would be more space to display brochures available to attractions in Culver and Marshall County. Continue reading
Culver Stellarbration and Sand Hill Farm Groundbreaking Today
The Town of Culver’s Stellarbration event is set for today at the Culver Beach Lodge. The town was named a Stellar Community in the state’s Stellar Communities Designation Program on Oct. 18 after two years of hard work to achieve the status.
Prior to this event, officials will conduct a groundbreaking ceremony on the Sand Hill Farms workforce housing development which is a project detailed in the Stellar Communities application. Construction of this structure will provide housing for those seeking one, two or three bedroom apartments who want to make Culver their home. The project helps complete goals of increasing housing and population, plus an increase in enrollment and economy in Culver. Continue reading
Culver Stellarbration Time Moved Back
The time for Culver’s local Stellarbration event has been amended to accommodate a change in Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch’s schedule.
Culver was named the Division II Stellar Community by Lt. Governor Crouch on Wednesday, Oct. 18. The state Stellarbration was held the following week while the Town of Culver scheduled the local event for Nov. 8. The start time for the event has been moved to 4:30 p.m. ET. Continue reading
Thanksgiving Celebration Set in Culver
A family Thanksgiving celebration event is planned in Culver for Friday, Nov. 17 at the Culver Beach Lodge.
Those who register can bring their small children to the event and enjoy a Thanksgiving show at 5 p.m. Dinner and crafts begin at 6 p.m. followed by an old trunk magic show at 7 p.m. ET. Organizers say food and crafts will be available in between or after the shows. Pizza will be served along with fruit, vegetables, apple cider, and hot chocolate. Continue reading
Culver and Lake Maxinkuckee Visitor Center Relocation Discussed
The Culver and Lake Maxinkuckee Visitor Center may soon have a new place to call home.
Becca Pazin asked the Culver Town Council if she could move the visitor center office from the bank to the top floor of the Culver Beach Lodge. She noted that she only has a few items to move. The display of activities on a computer screen will be moved to the Culver Beach Lodge as well. A large, more permanent display will stay at the bank.

Culver Town Council Discusses Movie Theater Purchase
Culver’s former movie theater may soon be purchased by the town, but more research needs to be done before any decisions are made.
Culver Town Council Approves Beach Lodge Renovation Plan Resolution
The Culver Town Council this week reviewed a resolution for renovations to the Culver Beach Lodge.
A Community Development Block Grant of $15,000 was awarded to the town with a local match of $3,500 for the renovations. Officials with the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs have reviewed the plans and are satisfied with how the grant money will be utilized.
Culver Beach Lodge Open House Set for Today
The staff at the Culver Parks Department is hosting an open house today at the Culver Beach Lodge as a prelude to the summer season at Lake Maxinkuckee.
Park Superintendent Anna Campbell said members of the public are welcome to visit the beach lodge and see the many improvements made to the building as well as the grounds over the winter months. Town Manager Jonathan Leist will present information along with members of the Culver Town Council who will be available for questions.
Culver Beach Lodge Open House Planned
An open house is set for Monday, May 15 at the Culver Beach Lodge as a prelude to the summer season at Lake Maxinkuckee.

Culver Receives Lake Maxinkuckee Amphitheater Grant
The Culver Park Department is the recipient of a $25,000 grant from the Marshall County Community Foundation.
The grant will be used to build an amphitheater just east of the Culver Beach Lodge.
The outdoor venue will be home for music, art and educational events at the Culver Beach with Lake Maxinkuckee providing a unique setting.
