Marshall County Elects to Fund Courthouse Elevator Upgrades

The Marshall County Council is hoping to ensure smooth operations of its court system by updating the elevators inside the courthouse.

The building has a north and a south elevator that is used by court personnel on the third floor and to transport prisoners for hearings. The age of the elevators inside the courthouse is expected to cause difficulty locating parts if there’s a failure, prompting a recommendation for the elevator contractor to replace both.

Caucus To Take Place for Marshall County Council Seat

Plans are now being laid for a new caucus in Marshall County following the resignation of Council President Matt Hassel.

The resignation follows Hassel’s election as Marshall County Sheriff on Tuesday night. His swearing-in took place on Wednesday. Prior to being able to officially serve as Sheriff, Hassel was required under state statute to first leave his post on the Council.

Marshall County Council Signs Onto Population Expansion Effort

The Marshall County Council has decided to give the go ahead for a project that could bring millions to the region.

In conjunction with Michiana Partnership, the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation advised the creation of a Regional Development Authority. The RDA would be formed along with St. Joseph and Elkhart counties in the pursuit of state grant funds.

Culver Wind Ordinance Tabled Amid Uncertain Language

The matter was heard on first reading when they last met, but the Culver Town Council ran into additional problems with their wind energy ordinance when it came back for a vote.

The Town has been working to craft an amendment to the zoning ordinance focusing on Wind Energy Conversion Systems for some time. The proposal has run into problems with residents on a consistent basis.
