Inmates Assist with Sandbag Needs in Marshall County

Inmates at the Marshall County Jail assisted community members in need of sandbags on Tuesday.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel and officers transported inmates to the Marshall County Highway Department where the trustees worked to fill hundreds of sandbags for area residents to deter the threat of flooding. The inmates were under the supervision of Marshall County Community Corrections Field Officers.

Shady Rest Home Committee to Hold Public Hearing Wednesday Night

The Shady Rest Home Committee members are asking for public input Wednesday night concerning the possible use of the Shady Rest Home facility by a non-profit organization.

The committee is considering a proposal from Gregg Erickson and Ted Hayden that would provide a structured recovery program for drug or alcohol offenders recommended to the program by Marshall County Community Corrections. The program, called “David’s Choice”, would assist recovering addicts for six to nine months on getting a job, completing treatment, conducting community service, and obtaining other life and job skills.

Marshall County Commissioners to Meet Today

The Marshall County Commissioners will meet today and are expected hear requests to apply for grants from Community Corrections Director Ward Byers and representatives from the Marshall County 4-H Fair Board Long Range Planning Commission.

Members from the highway department will award construction and resurfacing bids during today’s commissioner’s meeting, while a zoning change will be presented by a representative from the Marshall County Planning Commission. Marshall County Council Approves Community Corrections Grant Request

Marshall County Community Corrections Executive Director Ward Byers approached the county council on Monday morning asking for approval to seek grant funding for the department’s budget.

Byers said this request is in accordance with the preparation of the 2019 Fiscal Year budget.

“Our current fiscal year budget is $403,100,” said Byers. “I’m not certain if that’s going to go up at all. The advisory board has not reviewed any numbers yet. That will be done at December’s meeting.” Continue reading
