Traffic Changes Coming at Plum, Jefferson Intersection in Plymouth

City Engineer Rick Gaul reviews the different scenarios of changes to traffic at the Plum and Jefferson Street intersection

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety reviewed several traffic improvements as recommended by City Engineer Rick Gaul during their meeting Monday night.

Gaul explained that striping could be included on Plum Street to ease traffic flow as well as signage that would read “no parking from here to corner” to help larger profile vehicles to maneuver the corner from Jefferson Street north on Plum Street. In a later phase, the curbing on the east part of the intersection could be reconfigured along with the crosswalk to widen the street for traffic off of Jefferson Street. A third phase could include a parking improvement on the eastern side of the street where the street would be widened for two cars to park more inward toward the sidewalk allowing for an easier flow of traffic.

Plymouth BOW/City Council to Meet Tonight

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety will meet tonight where City Engineer Rick Gaul will have several updates on discussion items. He will present information on the Plum and Jefferson Street intersection, Baker survey issues, Baker Ditch Bridges, and U.S. 30 ramp detour. City Attorney Sean Surrisi will ask the board members to ratify the temporary closure of East Garro Street for the City Hall project. The board will also consider an agreement between the Plymouth Community Ambulance Service and the State of Indiana for the annual government ambulance payment adjustment for managed care service. An agreement for the preparation of the provider cost report for 2017 will also be considered.

Plymouth BOW and City Council to Meet Tonight

The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members will meet tonight where the 2018 intergovernmental agreement between Marshall County and the City of Plymouth for planning services will be discussed. If that agreement is approved, Plan Director Ralph Booker will present the 2018 planning services agreement.

The board members will also consider the 2018 animal control services agreement.

Baker Street Project Complete

The Safe Routes to School project on Baker Street in Plymouth is complete.

The months-long project wrapped up on Monday. New sidewalks, curbs and gutters were installed to allow for a better walking path for students on their way to the schools. The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety previously approved a bid for just over $300,000 for the project. The city’s share of that is approximately $61,000.

City Engineer Rick Gaul told the board members on Monday that a change order will be presented to the board during a future meeting. He said he anticipates the entire amount will be under construction project cost.

The project had been in the works since 2014.

Plymouth BOW Ratifies Bid

Plymouth Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt asked the Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members Monday night to ratify a bid presented to them at the prior meeting for street and sidewalk work.

Plymouth City Attorney Sean Surrisi opened bids for the projects during the Oct. 11 meeting. Following the meeting Chris Marshall with the city engineer’s office reviewed them and the lowest bid provided by Walsh and Kelly was found to be within the specifications requested. Continue reading

Safe Routes to School Project to begin in Plymouth Today

New sidewalks, curbs and gutters will be installed to allow for a better walking path for students on their way to the schools. The Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety previously approved a bid for just over $300,000 for the project. The city’s share of that is approximately $61,000.

City Engineer Rick Gaul and Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt are going to stress that the contractors from Northern Indiana Contractors stay off the street while they’re working or else they won’t get much done. They will be able to work off the side of the street. Gaul said rush hour traffic in the morning and afternoon may delay the project if the crews don’t heed the advice.

Bids Opened for Richter Road Water Main Extension Project

Four bids were received by the Plymouth City Council Monday night for the Richter Road water main extension project.

The lowest bid was submitted by Haskins Underground, Inc. in Plymouth in the amount of $124,605. The highest bid was $257,812 from out of South Bend. The council voted unanimously to take the bids under advisement. They will be reviewed by City Attorney Sean Surrisi, City Engineer Rick Gaul and Utility Superintendent Donnie Davidson. A recommendation will be brought before the city council during their next meeting on July 24.
