The Culver PTO Meet, Greet and Craft Event is Happening Tonight at Main Street Studio
Culver parents are encouraged to attend tonight’s Meet, Greet and Craft event with the Culver PTO at Main Street Studio.

Argos Town Council Members to Consider Fire Department Run Ordinance Tonight
Argos officials met in a special meeting last week where they briefly discussed an ordinance pertaining to fire department runs.
Town Council members met with Fire Chief Mark Dean in order to go over the document on Thursday. Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney explained that currently the department only charges for structure fires. However, the Argos Fire Department frequently responds to other types of calls outside of the town limits. To help supplement the department’s budget, officials are considering charging for these other runs as well. Continue reading

September is recognized as National Recovery Month. It’s a time where we come together to congratulate those who have overcome their addictions and to recognize the achievements of people currently working toward sobriety. It’s also meant to promote the societal benefits of prevention, treatment and recovery for substance use and mental health disorders.

Argos Officials Meet with EMS Director to Discuss Replacement Process, More EMTs Needed
Argos officials met with EMS Director Richie Miller last Thursday to discuss finding his replacement.
Director Miller announced that he will be resigning from his position officially on December 31st of this year. Town Council members met with him in a workshop to go over the duties and responsibilities of his position. They also used that time to brainstorm ideas about how the interview process should go.

Federal Trade Commission officials are warning motorists to avoid being scammed by skimmers this summer travel season.
A “skimmer” is an illegal card reader that attaches to credit card slots and steals data off of your card’s magnetic strip. They’re used most frequently at gas pumps. Criminals sell this info or use it to buy items online. Card owners may not even realize their information has been stolen until they receive their statement or an overdraft notice.

Free Narcan Training Class to be Held by the Marshall County Health Department Tonight
The U.S Surgeon General and former Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Jerome Adams recently issued an advisory recommending that more Americans carry the opioid overdose-reversing drug, naloxone otherwise known as Narcan.
The Marshall County Health Department has been offering free community Narcan training throughout the month of April and tonight is your final chance to attend one of these life-saving classes. Commissioners, Highway Supervisor Discuss Damaged Mailboxes
The Marshall County Commissioners would like to see what other counties do in terms of mailbox replacement during plow events.
Highway Supervisor Jason Peters presented a proposed policy during the last meeting that outlined a procedure of how mailboxes are replaced if damaged during a snow event. If the force of the snow knocks down a mailbox or damages a post, the county highway will not accept responsibility for that. If the plow strikes a mailbox, the highway department will replace it.
Lake District Zoning Changes Attract Many to Culver Public Hearing
The Culver Town Council opened a public hearing Tuesday night for comments concerning several zoning ordinance changes recommended by the plan commission.
The Lake District, or L1, zoning amendments drew a crowd of residents in that district who spoke out against changes to front and rear yards and side yard setbacks.

Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Housing Project in Plymouth
Dignitaries from the City of Plymouth and the Marshall County areas of economic development and government welcomed the start of a new housing project in Plymouth on Tuesday morning.
The River Gate South housing project broke ground yesterday. At the corner of Michigan Street and Lake Avenue, three apartment buildings will be built. The east and west buildings will have 15 apartments consisting of one, two and three bedroom apartments. The center building will have nine condos with two and three bedroom units. Ground level parking will be available under each building as well as an outdoor lot. Continue reading

Commissioners Approve Secure Entry into Marshall County Building
The Marshall County Commissioners approved a plan on Monday to tighten security at the Marshall County Building.
The safety committee proposed unlocking the building around 7:45-7:50 a.m. as opposed to 6:30 a.m. every weekday. The doors would lock promptly at 4 p.m. at the end of the business day. Continue reading

Veterans Service Organizations Eligible for NIPSCO Grants
Organizations serving veterans can apply for a share of $100,000 from NIPSCO. As part of NIPSCO’s Charity of Choice program, local nonprofits can apply for grants of $500 to $5,000.
IRS Touts Free File Options
Taxpayers who owe $64,000 or less can file their income taxes for free. IRS officials say their Free File partnership makes doing so an option for 70 percent of taxpayers. Continue reading
Plymouth Street Department to Look into Replacing Stop Lights
Several traffic lights in Plymouth are causing concern to Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt.
The Plymouth Board of Works and Safety members learned that most of the lights in the city are antiquated and parts are becoming scarce to repair stop lights that malfunction. The controllers and systems need to be updated. About $75,000 has been budgeted for the project this year and a prioritized list will be created to complete that work.
