Education Funding Efforts Ramp Up in Argos

educationAn Argos-based group is hoping to influence public opinion to support a tax increase for local schools this May.

The Taxpayers for Argos Schools and Kids (TASK) group plans several public events to help raise awareness of the budget difficulties faced by the Argos Community School Corporation. Argos is no different than many other school corporations, where reductions in student population translate to a reduction in funding.

Sheriff’s Department Looks to Purchase Deputies Off-Duty Weapons for Added Protections

news-2The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department is planning to encourage deputies to begin carrying weapons while off-duty.

The proposal was brought forward by Sheriff Matt Hassel. Should Sheriff’s Deputies begin carrying weapons while conducting their personal routine business within the county, it is thought an added layer of protection would be in place.

Zika Virus Prompts Spring Break Travel Warning

zika virusSpring Break is the time of the year when people often head to warm, tropical places for vacation. But this year, pregnant women and their partners might want to rethink that, in light of health warnings about the Zika virus. It continues to spread in places like Brazil, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Dr. Jen Brown with the Indiana State Department of Health says although a state resident was diagnosed with Zika last month, she doesn’t expect a widespread outbreak here. Continue reading
