Still Time to Register for 9/11 Heroes Run in Culver

The Town of Culver will be honoring the memory of victims of the World Trade Center attacks, fallen heroes and their families with a 9/11 Heroes 5K Run and 1 mile fun run/walk on Saturday, September 16. In the meanwhile, event coordinators and volunteers have been lining the course with American flags.

Walkers and runners of all different ages and abilities are asked to come out to the Culver Academy Naval Building this Saturday to show support for veterans, their families and first responders. There is still time to register online before the race but individuals also have the ability to register on-site for an additional cost. Continue reading

Culver Club Teen Center Opens in October

Officials with the Culver Boys and Girls Club are excitedly preparing the space and organizing the itinerary for opening day of the brand new Culver Club Teen Center. The meet and greet is coming up on October 2nd and will be in room 919 of the new Middle School Culver Club Teen Center from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Enjoy free food and drinks as well as video game contests and three-on-three ping pong competitions with door prizes. The first 50 teens to register for membership will be entered in a drawing to win a hover-board! Continue reading

Escape Modern Society at the 7th Annual Rentown Old Fashion Days!

Does the phrase “family friendly blast from the past” appeal to you? If so, you have to check out the 7th annual Rentown Old Fashion Days. The event will feature 55 to 60 vendors selling various foods, crafts and other items. Proceeds from the event go toward Rolling Meadows, the Amish traditional school in Bremen. Many Marshall County Services Available to Recovering Addicts

September serves as National Recovery Month, which celebrates the gains made by those fighting addiction. While Marshall County continues to battle an ever-growing opiate problem, there are also many success stories to celebrate.

According to Community Corrections Director Ward Byers, through collaborative efforts with criminal justice partners and local treatment providers many client recoveries have been reported. Marshall County Community Corrections provides assistance with substance abuse recovery by hosting a support group ever Monday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Life Enrichment Center in Plymouth. The Smart Recovery Substance Abuse support group is a free service open to the public called Discover the Power of Choice. Continue reading

Plymouth High School Student Organizes Second 5K Against Domestic Violence

One Plymouth High School Senior is doing her part to make her community safer by organizing the second Marshall County 5K Against Domestic Violence. Loren Mattern decided to put together this event to honor the memory of Serenity Wilson, a local two-year-old girl who lost her life in September of 2015, after being beaten unconscious by a person who was considered to be a ‘family friend’.

The event will take place on October 7 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Young Amphitheater located at the corner of Baker St. and Randolph St in Centennial Park. Continue reading

September Marks the Start of Ancilla Community Choir Rehearsals

The Ancilla Domini Community Choir and Orchestra will be performing Handel’s Messiah this November. However, before they can grace the stage with a completed performance, they have to practice first.

Rehearsals are held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Tuesday in September and October except for the 31st, which will be moved to the November first. The choir will have its final two rehearsals on November 7th and 14th before their performance Saturday November 18th. Continue reading

ISDH Begins Toxicology Pilot Program to Improve Coroner Consistency in the State

The Center for Disease control said that Indiana is one of the three worst states for overdose fatality reports because of inconsistencies in the way coroners test and fill out death certificates. In an effort to improve that reporting, the Indiana State Department of Health’s Division of Trauma and Injury Prevention launched a toxicology pilot program that works with coroners and allows them to order either a basic or more comprehensive panel. Gas prices may be up 24 cents from last year’s average but compared to individuals on the east coast, drivers in Indiana won’t be seeing much of an impact from Hurricane Harvey at the pump. Bremen Business First to try Ancilla Management & Leadership Training

Petroleum Analysts Wait to See How Harvey Impacts National Gas Prices

As first responders attend to the devastation and destruction caused by Tropical Storm Harvey, fuel analysts wait to see how national gas prices will be impacted. Senior Petroleum Analyst for GasBuddy.com Partick DeHaan said that during Hurricane Katrina whole-sale gas prices shot up 40 cents a gallon. Casey’s General Store Receives BZA Approval

The former Burger King on Plymouth Rd, in Bremen that has been abandoned for about 2 and a half years will be occupied by a new company following a decision made by the Bremen Zoning Authority during a meeting last week. Casey’s General Store received the BZA board’s approval on their submitted application and is currently going through the proper channels to purchase the property and receive all the necessary permits.

The Marshall County Historical Museum invites you to pack a lunch on September 9th and join them from noon to 1 p.m during their “Shiver Me Timbers” Historic Barn Revival Brown Bag Presentation.
