Bourbon Town Council Considers Contract with Hyper Wave Technologies for Wireless Internet Service Installation

A proposal from the internet service provider Hyper Wave Technologies was presented during Tuesday night’s Bourbon Town Council meeting.

Clerk-Treasurer Kimberly Berger said representatives submitted a request for equipment installation. Berger explained, “They asked the council about putting equipment up on our water tower to offer wireless internet service to the people in town and out in our township.”

Council members agreed to the proposal, pending the town attorney’s decision once he reviews the contract and procedures. Continue reading

Triton Transportation Director Delivers Presentation on Bus Safety and the Importance of Bus Drivers

As the first member of school personnel that many children see in the morning and the last one they may see at the end of the day, bus drivers play an important role in students’ lives as they have the potential to set the tone for the day.

Triton School Officials Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Auxiliary Gym Facility

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Trion Junior-Senior High School auxiliary gym earlier this week.

School officials marked the start of the project on Monday by planting shovels and digging up soil at the site where the new gym will be constructed. Continue reading

Bourbon Town Council Contributes Funds to Community Destination Imagination Cemetery Project

When the Bourbon Town Council met on Tuesday, members committed $3,000 to the Community Destination Imagination group for a service project they have planned at the Early Bourbon Cemetery.

At a previous meeting, the students in the group told council members they want to do something to help revitalize the town’s cemetery.

Rather than attempting to repair all the stones that have been damaged through the years, the group plans to erect a monument to commemorate all those who are buried there. Continue reading

Triton School Board Considers Renewing Dietitian Services Contract

Triton School Board members considered the renewal of a dietician services contract through the Northern Indiana Education Service Center (NIESC) when they met Monday night.

According to Superintendent Jeremy Riffle, members considered the extension of Dietician Kaylnn MacKillop’s contract. Riffle said Triton’s contract would be for $3,500 and would run from August 1st of this year through June 1st of 2019. Continue reading

Triton School Board Approves Chromebook Purchase from FireFly Computers

Triton School Board members approved the purchase of 180 new Chromebooks when they met Monday night. The money for the computers will come from a digital learning grant from the Indiana Department of Education.

Members approved two different quotes from the company FireFly Computers. One quote of $23,795 was for 90 Chromebooks for the 6th grade and a quote of $25,592 was approved for some storage carts and 90 Chromebooks for the 2nd grade.

The School Corporation’s treasurer and business manager Tom McFarland explained why there was price difference of about $1,797. Continue reading

Absentee Voting for Primary Election Starts Today

Today is the first-day voters may cast an absentee ballot for the 2018 primary election. According to the Secretary of State’s Election Division, absentee-by-mail applications for the 2018 primary election must be received by the county office by April 30th.

There are specific conditions that individuals must meet in order to be eligible to vote absentee-by-mail. These reasons include that there is a specific, sensible expectation that you will be absent from the county on Election Day, you are scheduled to work at your regular place of employment when polls are open or you will have official election duties outside of your voting precinct. Theft Suspects Allegedly Attempt to Flee, Apprehended by Marshall County and Plymouth Police Officers

Officers with the Plymouth Police Department were dispatched to Wal-Mart around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 6th in reference to a theft that had just occurred where one male subject involved with the incident had apparently fled the scene.

Marshall County officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, according to the police report. The male party involved was apparently detained and transported back to Wal-Mart by Plymouth Officers. Continue reading

Argos Town Council Approves Marshall County Multi-Hazard Emergency Management Mitigation Plan

Argos Town Council members approved a resolution last week that formally adopts the Marshall County Multi-Hazard Emergency Management Mitigation Plan.

Jeanette Rarick Memorial Scholarship Open To Bremen Students Seeking Various Post-Secondary Options

Bremen students are being encouraged to apply for the Jeanette Rarick Memorial Scholarship before the deadline of Friday, April 13th.

According to Marshall County Community Foundation representatives, Jeannette Rarick spent about three decades working with Bremen students and will be remembered most for tutoring math. After she passed away from cancer last May, her husband, Max Rarick, worked to create this scholarship fund to honor her teaching legacy. Continue reading

MCEDC Manufacturing Center Discussed at Argos Town Council Meeting

A Marshall County Economic Development Corporation official presented an update about the Argos Manufacturing Center project when Town Council members met on Wednesday.

According to Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney, MCEDC Board representative Mark Umbaugh told members that the deed for the building was in the process of being recorded. In Recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month the CDC Provides Info to Help Stop Sexual Violence Before it Begins

Sexual violence is a serious public health issue that affects millions of men and women. Just in the United States, 1 in 6 men and 1 in 3 women reported experiencing sexual violence involving physical contact at some point in their life.

As startling as that statistic may sound, it doesn’t capture the true magnitude of the problem as many victims do not tell police, family or friends about the incident.

In an effort to draw attention to the pervasive problem, April is recognized as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The Center for Disease Control provided a bit of information to help stop sexual violence before it begins. Continue reading

Argos Town Council Approves $3,000 Annual Donation to the Marshall County Council on Aging

Argos Town Council members approved a $3,000 donation to the Marshall County Council on Aging when they met Wednesday night.

The executive director of the organization, Jacqueline Wright, came before the council to request a donation of $1,000 to $3,000 in order to help cover operation costs. She informed members that Argos has a substantial aging population.

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney explained that since the organization provides a valuable service to the community, members voted to give the maximum amount requested. Continue reading

A resolution to declare certain real-estate to be within an Economic Revitalization Area (ERA) was considered by Plymouth City Council members last week.

Plymouth Board of Works Approves Bowen Printing Property Sale

A proposal requesting the sale of a city-owned building that sustained major flood damage was brought to the attention of Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members when they met last Monday.

Plymouth City Council Adopts Ordinance to Amend Department of Aviation Fee Schedule

While presenting Plymouth City Council with an ordinance to amend the fee schedule for the Department of Aviation, City Attorney Sean Surrisi recommended that members consider suspending the rules and adopting the ordinance on all three readings.

When members met last Monday, Surrisi explained that the Aviation Board recently approved a few changes to the fee schedule that had to come before the city council before they could be officially implemented. A $10 increase to hangar rent was proposed, shifting the rent from $85 to $95. Continue reading

Street Closure Request for Downtown Merchants’ Second Friday Events Approved by Plymouth BOW

Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety members considered a street closure request when they met last week.

Last Monday night, BOW members received a request submitted by Promotion of the City Coodinator Laura Mann.

Clerk-Treasurer Jeanine Xaver read the request, explaining that it asked to close Garro Street, west of Michigan Street and east of the alley, for the 2nd Friday events sponsored by the Downtown Merchants’ Group. Continue reading
