Argos Zoning Book to be Updated, Spots Remain Open on Plan Commission

With the assistance of Marshall County Building Commissioner Chuck DeWitt, Argos officials on the Plan Commission and BZA are currently in the process of assessing and updating the Town’s zoning book.

Clerk-Treasurer Lisa Mullaney shared that the zoning book was last updated in 2015 and officials are currently working to find areas that need improvement in order to bring their zoning codes into compliance. Continue reading

Don’t Let a Skimmer Scam Ruin Your Summer

Federal Trade Commission officials are warning motorists to avoid being scammed by skimmers this summer travel season.

A “skimmer” is an illegal card reader that attaches to credit card slots and steals data off of your card’s magnetic strip. They’re used most frequently at gas pumps. Criminals sell this info or use it to buy items online. Card owners may not even realize their information has been stolen until they receive their statement or an overdraft notice.

Approximately $1,000 Raised at 2nd Annual Dash n Splash Fundraiser

The weather was perfect for Saturday’s Dash n Splash event hosted by the Marshall County Humane Society, according to Executive Director Nancy Cox.

Close to $1,000 was raised for the shelter during this weekend’s event that included a leisurely hike to Culver Academy followed by a cool down at the beach.

Cox said this was the second year of the event and there was a larger turn out than last year, with about 25 to 30 dogs and pet owners in attendance. Continue reading

Time is Running Out to Sign-Up for the Women’s Conservation Learning Circle

In order to reach the growing number of women farmers and female landowners interested in agriculture, a “Women’s Conservation Learning Circle” will be held next week.

The Soil and Water Conservation Districts of Marshall, Elkhart and St. Joseph Counties have teamed up with the National Resource Conservation Service and the organization Women4theLand to host a conservation discussion and field tour on Tuesday, August 14th.

The meeting will begin at the Potato Creek State Park Nature Center at 9 a.m. and the entire event will last until 3 p.m. The final day to RSVP to attend is tomorrow, Tuesday, August 7th. Continue reading

Hear Festival Returns to Help Raise Funds and Awareness for Mental Illness

Time is running out to purchase tickets for the Hear Festival in Plymouth tomorrow.

The Hear Festival is an annual event that helps raise money and awareness for those with mental illness and their loved ones. Tickets will be available online until 5 p.m. today.

The musical festival is put on by Here/Hear, a local nonprofit organization aimed at providing hope and support to individuals with mental illness by helping people find counseling, providing educational events and offering suicide prevention and awareness training. Continue reading

Community members have the chance to collectively commemorate Drew Shearin and contribute to the cause created in his honor this Saturday at the 7th annual “Drew’s Gift of Music” event.

iParent Meetings and Open School Hours to be Held at Lincoln Junior High School Today

School officials at Lincoln Jr. High in Plymouth will be holding “iParent” meetings today to issue student computers and discuss expectations when it comes to technology usage.

Did You Know Argos Elementary School Offers After School Child Care?

Argos parents who need a little extra help with after-school care can sign their student up for the childcare program that runs from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. during the week.

This program is only open to students in elementary school and according to the school’s website, it includes homework time, snacks, games and playtime. A small service fee is charged and will be due at the end of each week. Parents are only charged for the days that their child attends the program. Continue reading
