Commissioners Approve Moving forward on Health Department Building Purchase

The Marshall County Health Department will soon have a new home as the Marshall County Commissioners gave the go-ahead for the purchase of the building that housed the Bowen Center in Plymouth before their move to a new facility along U.S. 30 by the Lifeplex.

Monday the Commissioners approved the purchase agreement worked out by Bowen and County officials that will have the Health Department provide an initial payment of $250,000 for the building with two additional $100,000 payments in the next two years. All three payments will be made from state funds provided to the department as part of the Health First Indiana program. The department will also set aside an additional $100,000 from those funds this year to make the renovations necessary within the building to make it suitable for the everyday needs of the MCHD.

President of the Commissioners, Stan Klotz, had told the County Council in a previous meeting that the building had been appraised at $900,000.

The Council had stated their intention would be to support the agreement if the terms of a down payment of $250,000 with two $100,000 payments from the grant funds could be arranged. The County will then take over the maintenance of the building moving forward.

The agreement will still need the expected official Council approval, and it is hoped the purchase will be closed later in the month of March.
