The Marshall County Council members held a public hearing on the 2025 budget during their September 12 meeting.
According to the Notice to Taxpayers on the Indiana Gateway website, of the major funds, the General Fund was advertised at about $16.3 million, the Highway Department Fund at about $575,000, Local Road and Street at $962,000, the Cumulative Bridge Fund at about $2.6 million, the Health Fund at about $693,000, Cumulative Capital Development at about $1.1 million, LIT Special Purpose at about $6.4 million, Medical Benefits Self-Insurance at just under $3.3 million, Local Public Health Service at about $1 million, and Central Dispatch at about $329,000.
The overall total advertised budget is $42,790.783.
The council members made cuts to the budget during the lengthy public hearing. The General Fund budget was cut nearly $97,000 with almost $137,000 in cuts to special funds.
Marianne Peters presented the Solid Waste District budget of $542,532 which was accepted by the council members. Brian Teall and Wyatt Stephen also appeared on behalf of the Marshall County Tourism Commission on how they are interpreting their Innkeepers Tax funding to maximize the benefits of the organization for Marshall County.
The council approved the second reading of the budget resolution during their meeting. The Budget and Finance Subcommittee will be meeting with a few department heads to present questions about their budgets. The council will adopt the budget during their next regular meeting Thursday, October 10 at 9:30 a.m. ET in the second floor meeting room (Room 203) in the Marshall County Building at 112 W. Jefferson Street in Plymouth.
